Yep, you bet your life should be your own reality show. Why do you need to sit for an hour to watch some one else do what you are capable of doing. Why Not?
OK, I'm not really telling you to do what you see others doing on the ever poplular TV shows. By the way do you ever wonder why they are so popular. I believe it is because folks don't want to do these kinds of things anymore and the reality show fills some sort of gap in their lives. At least they can watch some one do something. Spectators. I am not suggesting you not do this stuff, but I am not telling you not to do it either. Just don't let the calendar make you old!
See a doctor get an assessment of your health, find something you like to do or would want to do and DO IT.
Climb
Hike
Swim
Kayak
Fly
Rock Tumble
Walk
What ever, but do something. Why Not! I can tell you that aging can be a lot happier when you are doing something that requires your ingenuity, wits, strength and reason. Just for instance. Last year at 73 after flying since 16 I decided to keep flying. I couldn't afford to keep renting airplanes at $150.00/hour so I heard about Powered Parachute Flying. I looked into it and now am flying and landing out of local farm fields any time I want at $4.00/hour.
There are some things in life besides death and taxes that are for certain.. We will become older and less healthier as well as more dependent on others. However, while you still have brains and a body do something you like to do. The goal is to reamain happy and optimistic until- ......So, get offf the sofa and go make your own reality show.

Older and Hopefully Happier
HI Friends,
It should be a fact of our lives that as we become older we should become happier. I will address the opposite of this some time later. But, for now why shouldn't we become happier as we age? I (73) and we have been taken through the family raising time. We don't have children at our heels all day. We should have most of our financial problems solved or handled by this time. And, our relationship to that special person hopefully has been fulfilled (49+year).
So why are a lot of older people some of our most malcontent of all? Why are they running around moaning and groaning for family or government to make the happy? Why are they happy to sit a stranger down and talk for an hour about their illnesses? Or, spend other time showing picture of grand kids and family who never come to visit them?
Why? - Because they never took the time to be responsible for making themselves happy. You will never make another person happy if you are not! I'm not promoting irresponsibility. I have a beautiful marriage and two self suporting Sons.
To the degree you fill yourself up you will be able to give to others. You can't wait until you are 73 to decide you want to enjoy your life. Not to say at 73 you can;t learn something new to have fun. But, a fun lifestyle will make you a more productive, enjoyable Husband or Wife. If you lean on another to provide fun in your life you will smother that other person. Learn to Solo stuff. You can go for a day walk in the woods by yourself, you can rent a row boat, something. But, I trully believe learning how to have fun and be happy alone allows you to make your life and those around you happier.

Define Older...
Welcom Back, When do you know you are old? I know I am older, but am I old? I have a freiend who says "Lar, 70 is old!". Probably so. What I would like to talk about here is older vs. old. Some of my friends tell me they are now 74 - 75 and there are thing they should not be doing. I don't believe it.
Sure, I can't do some of the things I did at 40. But, that doesn't mean I need to stop. Remember you will never be any younger than you are right now! Never. So,if it's something you like to do and you can do it, then go ahead.
I believe the key to older and happier is starting at a very young age. I have people tell me, "You do this- and you do that". Well sure but, I have been doing stuff all my life. I was telling my wife the other day that if I had waited for someone else to do something with me. I would have missed most of my life. Before Alaska was a state I was ferrying small planes from Fairbanks to Nome alone(in the middle of the winter once) with no GPS or radios. At 16 I could fly. Take up running, go climb. Get off the sofa and turn off the TV.
In summary don't let the calendar make you old. Ten years from right now you will look back and realize how young you were. So, why not go now while you are still able. And, guess what, you might still be doing what you love 10 years from now. If you can't find someone to go with you. Go Alone. But do it!
