Older and Hopefully Happier

HI Friends,

It should  be a fact of our lives that as we become older we should become happier. I will address the opposite of this some time later. But, for now why shouldn't we become happier as we age?  I (73) and we have been taken through the family raising time. We don't have children at our heels all day. We should have most of our financial problems solved or handled by this time. And, our relationship to that special person hopefully has been fulfilled (49+year).

So why are a lot of older people some of our most malcontent of all?  Why are they running around moaning and groaning for family or government to make the happy?  Why are they happy to sit a stranger down and talk for an hour about their illnesses?  Or, spend other time showing picture of  grand kids and family who never come to visit them?

Why? - Because they never took the time to be responsible for making themselves happy.  You will never make another person happy if you are not! I'm not promoting irresponsibility. I have a beautiful marriage and  two self suporting Sons.

To the degree you fill yourself up you will be able to give to others. You can't wait until you are 73 to decide you want to enjoy your life.  Not to say at 73 you  can;t learn something new to have fun.  But, a fun lifestyle will make you a more productive, enjoyable Husband or Wife. If you lean on another to provide fun in your life you will smother that other person.  Learn to Solo stuff. You can go for a day walk in the woods by yourself, you can rent a row boat, something. But, I trully believe learning how to have fun and be happy alone allows you to make your life and those around you happier.
